Following Plovdiv, we arrive in Sofia. It is believed that the first settlement in Sofia was founded around the 8th century BC by a Thracian tribe called the Serdi. Later incorporated into the Roman Empire, the region was called Serdica after this tribe. In 1376, it began to be known among the people as Sofia because of the Hagia Sophia Church located here. Among the places to visit and see in Sofia are the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, one of the city's symbols as well as one of the world's second-largest Eastern Orthodox cathedrals, the St. Sofia Church beside it, the medieval St. Nedelya Church, which has been destroyed throughout the ages and rebuilt many times, and the St. George Rotunda Church, said to have been built over the ruins of Serdica, which is the oldest structure in Sofia. Protected by UNESCO, the building has remarkable architecture and breathtaking fresco decorations on its dome, created at many different times. The St. Nicholas Church, described as Sofia's most elegant and typical Russian church, the country's largest and oldest theatre, the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, the Old Communist Party Building, the Prime Ministry, Parliament, Sofia University, and the Army House, where the famous ball attended by the Great Leader Atatürk in a Janissary uniform was held, can be seen. In the middle of the square where Parliament is located stands Tsar Osvoboditel, erected in honor of Russian Emperor Alexander II, who liberated Bulgaria in the Russo-Turkish War; the Banya Bashi Mosque (Kadı Seyfullah Efendi Mosque), the only mosque in central Sofia; and the former Royal Palace, now the National Palace of Culture, are among the places to see. During our free time, you can buy Bulgarian souvenirs on Vitosha Boulevard and enjoy pleasant time in its cafés. After our city tour, we check into the hotel and spend the night. DAY 3: 01/01/2022: SOFIA-PLOVDIV-NEBET TEPE-BATENBERG STREET-ANCIENT AMPHITHEATRE-DJUMAYA MOSQUE-ST. CONSTANTINE-ELENA and NEDELYA
After breakfast at the hotel, following a short journey we arrive in Plovdiv. Throughout its long history, it has made significant contributions to Islamic-Turkish culture. It is a city where life has continued for 4,000 years. A place that perfectly combines modern architecture with that of ancient times. The most interesting and oldest part of the city, called Old Plovdiv, is located on NEBET TEPE. We will have the opportunity to see the traces left by the Byzantine, Greek and Ottoman states, the city's shopping centers, and the protected old town. We will visit Batenberg Street, the city's liveliest shopping and entertainment center. The Ancient Amphitheatre, dating from the ancient Roman era, is the next noteworthy sight. The Djumaya Mosque is an old monument that attracts considerable interest with its Turkish architecture. The oldest churches of Plovdiv that we will see are St. Constantine, Elena and St. Nedelya. Free time for shopping and exploring the city at your leisure. We then depart for Turkey. In the evening, we arrive at the border gate. After passport and customs procedures first at the Bulgarian and then at the Kapıkule Turkish border gate, we enter Turkey. We say goodbye after dropping our valued guests off at the points where we picked them up, and look forward to seeing you again on our next ÇORLU TRAVEL tour.
